Fresh Voices Grand Prize Winner Chris Bowen Signs with Echo Lake Management

Echo Lake Ent logoChris Bowen, Grand Prize Winner of the 2014-15 Fresh Voices Screenplay Competition has been signed by managers James Engle and Amotz Zakai at Echo Lake Entertainment.

Echo Lake recently produced the 6 times Academy Award Nominated film Nebraska and the upcoming film Truth starring Robert Redford, Dennis Quaid and Cate Blanchett.  On the management side, they have over 45 clients staffed on hit TV shows including TURN, THE 100, UNFORGETTABLE, HOUSE OF LIES, L&O:SVU, GREY’S ANATOMY, LAST SHIP, REIGN, the upcoming SHADES OF BLUE on NBC, HUNTERS on SyFy and many others. They also have clients currently writing feature scripts for Warner Bros, Fox, Fox 2000 and a client with a movie in production at MGM.

Concord Films lands Stephen Hunt's The Oval Portrait

banner 2Since winning the 2012 Fresh Voices Screenplay Competition, Grand Prize winner Stephen Hunt has hit a hot streak securing 13 screenplay competition and film festival wins with 3 different scripts.

All this heat led to the attention of Emmy Award winning TV director Miguel Guerreiro who ultimately collaborated with and directed a short crime thriller written by Stephen now in post-production entitled Early Release.

Not satisfied with merely seeing his short script being shot by an Emmy winning director, last week Stephen optioned his feature screenplay, Edgar Allan Poe's The Oval Portrait, based on the Edgar Alan Poe short story, to Concord Films, a US production company now wrapping their their third film. The Oval Portrait is scheduled to be their next project to be shot in Louisiana.

Moutaz JadMPower Pictures Makes Deal on 2012 Competition Winner Megalopolis  

In the first deal since announcing the winners of the 2012 Fresh Voices Screenplay Competition just one month ago, 1st place winner in the Science-Fiction/ Fantasy category, Moutaz Jad has struck a deal with established Hollywood production company MPower Pictures, to attach the company as producers to his winning script Megalopolis. MPower Pictures has produced several movies including Snowmen, American Carol, and the Golden Globe Nominated Machine Gun Preacher directed by Marc Forster and starring Gerard Butler.

Stephen Hunt HeadshotLOS ANGELES, March 28, 2013- Stephen M. Hunt took home the Grand Prize at the 2012 Fresh Voices Screenplay Competition for his compelling World War II drama, Precious Vengeance. (Read an interview with Stephen Hunt here.)

Hunt, an accomplished British playwright now living in France, was chosen as the grand prize winner from over 1,000 screenplay entries by competition chairman Joel Mendoza.

“Precious Vengeance is one of those rare scripts that conjure up such deep emotion, it is impossible not to be moved” said Mendoza. “It’s a story that lives with you and haunts you long after the end.”

2011 Fresh Voices Grand Prize Winner Jack Messitt is now collaborating with A-List Screenwriter Jeremy Garelick

jack messittSince winning last year's Grand Prize, Fresh Voices circulated Jack's winning screenplay Adventures in Babymaking to leading production companies and ultimately caught the eye of A-List Screenwriter Jeremy Garelick (The Break-Up, The Hangover). Since their first meeting, the two are collaborating on a project with an eye towards Jeremy directing. Jeremy was most recently hired by New Line to write the reboot of the Police Academy franchise.

Since being a finalist in the 2010 Fresh Voices Screenplay Competition, Bill quit his day job selling insurance and is now a staff writer for the upcoming A&E TV series The Bates Motel starring Vera Farmiga. With the help of Fresh Voices, Bill optioned his winning screenplay Already Gone and attached Shawn Ashmore (X:Men 1,2,3) and Harry Shum Jr. (Glee) to star in the project. See the trailer here

The Bates Motel

The Bates Motel is a new series created by Kerry Ehrin (Parenthood, Friday Night Lights, Boston Public) and Carlton Cuse (Lost, Nash Bridges). The Bates Motel is based on Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and is a further exploration of Norman Bates dark and twisted relationship with his morther. The series stars Vera Farmiga (The Departed, Up in the Air), Max Theriot and Freddie Highmore. The show is under a 10 episode order from Universal Television and will air on A&E in 2013.
